The days when consumers will buy anything we tell them as long as we say it loud enough and often enough are long, long gone! People are looking for relevance in their lives and in the brands they spend time with. What we learned in Marketing 101 just isn’t cutting it any longer! People are bombarded with advertising messages to the tune of over 250 per day – if you add in all the “ambient” messages, the tally is bumping up against 3,000. Is there any wonder folks have become so marketing resistant? It’s self preservation! Consumers are now highly selective about what gets their attention, and equally important: what they’ll believe! As marketers, it’s no longer our job simply to inform and persuade. We’ve got to connect our brand's truth with real live people.
